'No Country' lighting match practice

This one was fun, and came together pretty quickly. This time, I didnt get bogged down in modeling- everything is either imported, or super simply constructed. I also made sure to copy a live action film, to make sure it was possible to light the character and set at the same time.  I included a screenshot of the scene setup, cause I never see people do that

maya lighting study

I thought it would be a good idea to start doing lighting studies, using 'beautiful livingroom' pictures I'm pulling off google. Maybe soon ill get really crazy and start lighting from movie stills:D

lighting practice stuff

I've been trying to get a handle on linear lighting, and physically plausible materials. It's taken a surprising amount of work to get this far! That said, Im really psyched to turn out some actually nice-looking pics soon (with actual texture maps), using these techniques.

Guardians of the Galaxy fanart

I watched this the other day. I really wanted them to have a waffle breakfast at the end. I really need to practice painting. And hands...

Chartres update

just a quick update. I remodelled alot of block-out stuff (still more left to do, like all the window trim). I also made sure everything snaps to the grid i set up, which will make placement much easier and precise. I'm starting to think about how im going to treat lighting; latley, I've been really inspired by romantic landscapes like those of Claude Lorrain, and I want to see if I can get the same effect.

Chartres Blockout

I made a suuuuper rough blockout of a section of the Chartres cathedral in France. This pass was basically to figure out the logistics of modeling it properly, which im planning on doing soon.

'nuther walk cycle

This is Bazt, a goblin- I made him a few months ago.
oof, I really coulda rigged this guy better, eh? he needs a toe flap controller, hand controls and much better skin weights- some of the volume retaining bones I put in havnt been skinned in at all:O I might end up making the jacket clothsim in places instead of joint-based like it is now.

Walk cycles though!  I'm still trying to get comfortable with basic mechanics. I need to do some hardcore studying soon.
